Trinitas Urogynecologist is Nurses' Choice

Dr. Riachi the Only Urogynecologist in New Jersey to make Nurses' Choice Elite List

Labib E. Riachi, MD, a urogynecologist on staff at Trinitas Regional Medical Center who has pioneered numerous innovative surgeries for the treatment of female incontinence and prolapse, has been identified as the only urogynecologist in the Nurses' Choice of Top Doctors in New Jersey. The elite list was published in the February 2010 issue of New Jersey Monthly Magazine, and is the first list of Top Doctors to be compiled by recommendations from nurses. Also, Dr. Riachi was one of only 10 OB/GYN specialists statewide who made the Nurses' Choice list of Top Doctors.
 

All licensed nurses in New Jersey were invited to participate free of charge in an online survey from April - July 2009 that asked them to select the best physicians practicing in the state. The online survey, conducted by the New Jersey Healthy Care Quality Institute, was commissioned by the Polling Institute at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The survey asked participants to indicate if they had personally worked with the doctor; in those instances, personal experience with the physician was given greater weight in the survey than recommendations based on reputation alone.
 

Dr. Riachi is an international leader in providing minimally invasive treatment for both pelvic organ prolapse and female incontinence. Dr. Riachi has pioneered Total Vaginal Mesh Plasty (TVM), a procedure that corrects prolapse under regional anesthesia. The success rate compares to that of traditional surgeries, which involve a much more invasive abdominal incision. TVM takes a far less invasive approach; patients typically can return home within 24 hours and resume normal activities much quicker than if they had undergone traditional surgery.
 

Dr. Riachi also treats stress urinary incontinence with a minimally invasive surgical technique that has allowed thousands of women in New Jersey to be relieved of the burden of incontinence. During TVT-O surgery a small piece of synthetic material is used to create a "sling" that provides crucial support of the mid-urethra. The success rate is in excess of 90 percent, and the patient can typically return home just a few hours following surgery.
 

The surgeon has sought out and studied with ground-breaking physicians in France and Belgium who have led the way in minimally invasive surgery to correct female incontinence from stress and other causes. To expand the knowledge of this revolutionary procedure to medical colleagues, Dr. Riachi has traveled to the Middle East to teach in hospitals in Lebanon, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. More than 500 surgeons from throughout the world have received training in the TVM and TVT-O surgical techniques from Dr. Riachi.
