DR. RIACHI REACHES 2,000TH ROBOTIC SURGERY MILESTONE
Labib E. Riachi, MD, FACOG, has been a successful and busy surgeon over the course of his career, but he accomplished another important milestone when he recently performed his 2,000th robotic surgery cases.
Dr. Riachi, a double-board certified* urogynecologist, passed the milestone during a particularly hectic week of surgical cases. "I knew it was imminent, but I'm happy now that I'm past it and I'm looking forward to helping more women ease the pain and discomfort that many of them experience," he says. "Using the daVinci Robotic Surgery system, we can minimize the incisions, the bleeding, the discomfort, and the pain as well as improve the recovery times for patients in most cases."
As Chairman of OB-GYN, Chief of Robotic Surgery and Chief of Urogynecology at Trinitas, Dr. Riachi is one of the leading proponents of robotic surgery. In fact, he has used his vast experience to train other physicians on the daVinci system, and he has worked with surgeons in other specialties to help them use robotic surgery in their cases, too. This is especially evident in cases involving colorectal surgery, and other urological cases.
Dr. Riachi's robotic cases have included those for pelvic organ prolapse, hysterectomies, removal of fibroids, addressing bleeding disorders and malignancies. Additional areas of surgical uses for robotics include ovarian cystectomies, severe endometriosis, and lysis of adhesions, with these procedures directed at improving fertility in women.
While 2,000 robotic surgical cases is quite a milestone, Dr. Riachi points to the fact that each one of those cases represents a success for a woman with a particular problem, perhaps in pain, perhaps suffering from genital prolapse, whose life was made better, less painful and enabled her to resume her daily life in a way that may have seemed difficult, or impossible, before the surgery.
"This is what I do," he says. "I feel fortunate to be able to help women who are vulnerable, afraid and in pain or discomfort. In their time of need, I am happy to help them gain back a sense of normalcy in their lives. The technology allowed me to tackle more difficult cases in a minimal invasive way involving the pelvis in women suffering from different diseases.”
The experience gathered from the volume of cases is priceless.
